To be held

Where would I be without you?

I’d be around, perhaps floating, perhaps, self-doubting.

Where would I be without you?

Perhaps wondering,

perhaps swallowed into the abyss of the past…only to be

Stuck between the crevices of pain.

stuck between the cracks where darkness resides…

Digging…

Doing my best to build on a non-existent foundation in constant crumble, constant chaos.

How does one do that?

I don’t know.

But you’ve been with me. For so long. Perhaps for longer than I realized.

You have been at my side…

I wondered, briefly, if I knew how to put myself back together…what did that even mean, you said.

Gently, and honestly, you showed me that I always had the instructions but I just kept reading them wrong. Go figure.

You translated. With love.

You showed me what it meant to be held.

And we shall hold each other for all the days in all the ways.
